Evaluation

Depict! Short Film Evaluation
In the pre-production process, my main role was to create all of the storyboards, as well as giving my opinions on the paperwork such as the script, shot list and treatment. Maddie, Tristan and Phil completed these as well as other paperwork including a location release and talent releases. For production, I brought in a handbag to use as a prop and made sure to wear the same outfit on each filming day. During production, Phil acted in every scene; and Tristan and I acted in most of the scenes, whilst helpers operated the sound equipment and camera. On the final day of filming, Maddie operated the camera. When I wasn't in the scene, I helped to film the chase scenes. In post-production, Tristan operated the computer but all of us contributed our opinions on how we thought the scenes should be arranged. Maddie found the music for the scenes and Phil and Tristan found the sound effects for the last scene and recorded sounds of Phil being hit by the bag.

The end product could have been improved by fixing the continuity error of Phil and Tristan not wearing the same clothes in some of the classroom scenes. Luckily, this isn't very noticeable because of the costume changes in the idea scenes. I think the editing was successful because the scenes move smoothly into each other using transitions like fades. The production process could have been better by following the schedule because we had to record scenes whilst the classroom was full when we ran behind. This was caused by Phil missing a lesson and problems with filming in the same location as another group. We also got delayed because our audio recordings didn't save, causing us to have to rerecord some scenes. Another thing that could have been improved was the lighting in the green-screen scenes, as we had to edit it to be brighter and it looked slightly pixelated. More lights could have been used to fix this problem.

Other than removing a scene from our film, we stuck to our pre-production work very well. Our filming matched our storyboards mostly and we managed to edit the way we planned to, including the silent film speech. Our costumes also matched our storyboards well, but would have been more accurate if I remembered to wear my glasses in the scenes because I had drawn them on the storyboards. An issue we had was trying to create the angle that I had drawn, where Phil runs into the door. The angle wasn't possible so we had to film it slightly differently.
